Spotted in a video. Setting: Sicily. It looks extremely weird and I need to see the whole thing/its interior. EDIT: Solved, Oppo is just the best. It’s a Lancia Ypsilon, unbelievably strange int. and ext. pix after the jump:
Wow... just wow. Why is the gauge cluster in the middle? And pink alcantara? really?
ridiculous.
The rear looks like a VW golf ate a first gen CLS.

Lancia Ypsilon, based on the MK1 Punto. I’ve always liked them, though most don’t.

It’s a 1998-2000 Lancia Ypsilon.

Ugly.

I’ve always had a soft spot for them although over here they are definitely perceived as a girl’s car. Also, I’d consider buying one as a beater one day if they weren’t as rubbish to drive as they are (having driven a Punto)

Woah there, my first car was a MK1 Punto and my nostalgia tells me that it was awesome.

It’s a predecessor of the last remaining Lancia. The Italians liked them, others not so much.
The third generation was sold as a Chrysler in rhd markets with singular lack of success.

To be fair I haven’t driven an exactly mint one but I remember hating it thoroughly. I will admit though that I never liked them, even as a kid.
*opinions expressed here might make no sense whatsoever since I very much enjoy driving an old Panda 4x4

I’m in love. It’s so ugly it’s beautiful.

Grazi!

Because Panda 4x4s are awesome! I always stop and stare on the rare occasion that I actually get to see one. My girlfriend despairs.

Did you know that instrument cluster is shared with the Pagani Zonda?
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:14 |

Are you kidding me!? Okay I saw one last weekend, lemme dig that up:
I’m speechless... different faceplate and bezel but obviously the same layout.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:16 |

I really want a scale model of one of these.

Gauge cluster in the middle so they can build the car RH or LH drive. Not as bad as a Renault Le Car...

I think the Ypsilon was just another average eurobox but the ads were cute. Smart, too. It shows off that the car has AC and power windows without blatantly shoving it in your face.
The upholstered dash was a weird design choice.

Can’t imagine why it wouldn’t succeed.

makes sense.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:28 |

Yep, a very strange choice. Especially in pink with a plastique bezel on the controls

Feast your eyes (bonus sexy body)
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:32 |

That car is a disgrace to the Lancia name.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:32 |
|
What I’d have done if I were Lancia was to color match the dash pad to the exterior.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:33 |

When I see a 1st gen Ferrari California I always think of that Lancia, because of the similar shape of those odd bottom taillights. It’s like the Ferrari ate the poor Lancia
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:34 |
|
Agreed, from what I understand most Lancias fit that description unfortunately.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:34 |

That would be truly retro! I’m down.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:35 |

Could they be the same FCA parts bin item?
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:37 |

Most Lancias since the Delta, at least (said 50% of the Oppo Lancia Owners Consortium, possibly 100% depending on what Lanciere says).

My Neon had that. The radio and shifter bezels were the same yellow as the outside. It was pretty chic. PT Cruisers also did the same thing.

I’m just happy Alfa still has it going on.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:43 |

Really!? I know that gauge cluster well, it was my HS best friend’s first car and I spend a ton of time in it.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:51 |

Hey now, I own a Lancia too. Used as an engine donor, true, but it hasn’t been entirely junked just yet. My Zeta is only barely more Lancia than the Lancia Voyager, but it is a Lancia none the less.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:57 |
|
I remembered that, but assumed it was dead by now for the engine! I am remiss.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 15:58 |

As am I, however tenuous.

Also something that you won’t believe, the Zonda’s climate control panel is shared with the Rover 45
The head unit looks like a Fiat part too.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 16:00 |
|
This Zonda is there all the time, I’m totally gonna hassle the owner with these details and report back xD Italian day is later this summer
![]() 06/07/2017 at 16:02 |

Yeah, it was sort of a hidden option code automatically triggered by a combination of options. If the car was yellow, red, or orange and the black interior was chosen you’d get color matched bezels instead of the standard gray. Other colors got silver bezels with the black interior.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 16:19 |
|
My friend’s had the standard grey, and his brother used to sit on the roof every day after high school. Popping it back into shape was a daily ritual.

It’s an empty hulk by now, drive train removed and some parts sold. But it’s still there. So I can still proudly say I am a Lancia owner. :)

Ypsilons look awesome! I wouldn’t mind having one! I’ve posted about them before!

They are FIAT Punto-based! :)

Yeah all the hate doesn’t make sense to me! That said, pretty much all Euro superminis are exciting to me so there’s that.
![]() 06/07/2017 at 18:25 |

Same! :D I have a penchant for the Italians, but I love me a basic, no-frills supermini, especially of the Euro variety! :D

It looks like the designer threw a blanket over the clay model. his boss walked in, and asked “are you ashamed or is it supposed to look like that?” the designer replied “how do you feel?” and thus another Lancia was made.
![]() 06/08/2017 at 10:16 |
|
...and then he kept working because his boss wanted to hang around, except now he had to sculpt the model through the blanket, hence the droopiness
BTW I may be at Palmer for the PCA event this weekend... not sure which day yet though.

I have to make it up there sometime. looks great.
